You are right that there is an exchange of expertise in NATO, but it’s the Scandinavians that do the training when it comes to cold weather / mountain warfare. The USA’s specialty is urban counterinsurgency and bombing Africans.

Greenland is part of the kingdom of Denmark. Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland have a long standing mutual defence pact separate from NATO. A direct confrontation with the United States navy would be foolish, so guerilla warfare would be a lot more beneficial. Unless Britain and France get involved of course. That would alter things somewhat.

The vast ice sheet that covers Greenland would be the new home away from home to various Scandinavian special forces units who would habitually commit assassinations and sabotage against any occupying force. The result would be a massively asymmetric situation similar to Vietnam but in extremely cold temperatures.
