You can do both and people have done for ages. The thing about work is that you need to do it even when you don’t want to, which makes some people resentful. But that’s the difference between a hobby and work. Passion has nothing to do here. There are passionate people who went into a job because of it and won’t trade it for anything.

Also has barely any community, is leaning deep into praising authoritarian countries, is gloryfying violence and has huge moderation issues. You can make everything sound good, but lemmy will never be a true alternative. It will grab a wave of people, lose it till the next controversy pops up and the cycle will repeat. Till there is an actual alternative that becomes available. Same as with Mastodon and Bluesky

It has always been a threat / call to violence and anyone saying otherwise is trying to justify it / soften the meaning.

You could say “take the data and go to a doctor just in case”. Explain the liability thing. Tell them you’ll deny you told them anything. If they are your close friend, why would they take it as “fuck yeah let’s sue the dude that was worried about me”?
