Using different cutlery based off of meal size/how long you want to savor something (ex: You like ice cream, so you may eat it with a smaller spoon so it lasts longer.).
I don’t do this all the time, but definitely with desserts and sweets. Both from the perspective of being able to savor it longer, and also for portion control.
I would think doing otherwise is weird. I mean a table spoon barely fit into a single portion of yoghourt or icecream. It would be more complicated and weird to insisted on eating them with a tool design to drink soup.
Although technically I do use the larger spoon for single serving ice cream - when I was at school I got frustrated by cheap flatware bending on me, so now for something hard I prefer the sturdier choice
Yeah, I’ve got this issue as well (nothing that better quality spoon can solves but my finances is out of topic) but I’m speaking about the ice you buy in single serving. It’s not a serving within a big owl but a serving pack tight in some carton bowl just big enough.

I solve this by having larger portions less frequently.

There are basic definitions for different sized flatware and yes the dessert spoon is the smaller one
