  • Well a BSN won’t do bedside care unless they want to. They can, but part of the point of getting the degree is handling different aspects of nursing than just bedside care in a facility setting.

And, yeah, the “higher” you are in the chain of command, the less physical work is involved. Not that it disappears entirely, but even in a hospital, a PA here in the US is going to be able to call in nurses and nurse’s assistants to do the demanding physical work unless it’s an emergency where time is too big a factor, and even then they’d only get started.

Same with dementia patients too. You might have to provide care for them if you’re in a facility that treats dementia, but you wouldn’t do so alone.

I’m honestly amazed you don’t have the equivalent of a nurse’s assistant to help with moving patients though. That’s what I did as my primary job, and we were the ones that an RN would call when a patient needed moving around, if they didn’t want to or couldn’t do it. I’d be responsible for anything from fifteen to thirty patients in nursing homes, so I know exactly what you mean about the ratio killing your body.

The job is part of why I’m disabled now, it is very much a young person’s job, doing the grunt work of patient care.

  • Largely, you’d already gotten good advice on how to sabotage a sub.

The key is automod, but don’t forget that the goal is to keep reddit from just undoing it all and replacing you before things get so bad nobody comes back if they do.

So you gotta put some time into it, and implement changes over a few weeks. Start by bumping up the account age setting to something high enough to weed out a lot of casual users but not everyone. Add in some automod filters to remove common things. Let that rest for a day or two, then add in some more filters so that posting becomes harder, but not impossible.

At some point in there, people will complain, so you’ll have to tweak automod to remove references to mods as well.

That’s the process. By the time things get bad enough that reports would get crazy, enough people should have just left in a huff that the reports don’t get so high that reddit pays attention.

By the end of it, any new posts will have to jump though major hoops, so you’ll effectively keep out bots. Place a final automod rule requiring some specific words and walk away. That’s the best you can do. Maybe reddit undoes it, maybe not, but by the time they get around to it, it won’t matter.

  • Haaave mercy.

Never in my life did I expect to have pet chickens.

If I had, I do not believe I would have imagined having spolied rotten pet chickens.

My little girl, she’s been spoiled since the day she came home with us. Her going pew-pew, and cheep-cheep-cheep on the ride home melted everyone. A few weeks in, she was nesting in my beard, and I would glare at anyone daring to disturb her. Even when she pooped in my beard before we got her pad trained, she was gently sat aside before I would dash to wash up lol.

But big boy? He was half wild, even when we thought he was a hen. Back then, the only one he would allow to touch him was my kid, and even that was for short periods. Wouldn’t take treats from our hands without a lot of urging and patience.

So, last night, we bring the girl in, set the supplies up for volunteer hen and the rooster outside, and big boy comes in for his visit.

I’m feeding him choice tidbits of biscuit, petting him, and he’s being his regal self. We get it all set up, and my wife and kid head inside. I’m communing with my broski. He’s supposed to sleep outside, since we’re finally having a night that isn’t too cold for safety.

Well, he hops down at one point, and heads the general direction of the door. I follow him to let him out (enclosed back porch). He goes out and gobbles at me, so I come out and follow him around a bit. He’s bok-ing and scratching, and occasionally humping my shoe. You know, chicken stuff.

My back has been giving me trouble, so I say goodnight to come in. I open the door, and he jumps up onto the porch and moves over to the chair and waits on me.

So I sit down, he hops up, and gets scritches. And some more biscuit, because he’s being sweet. We’re just talking to each other, chilling. But my back has limits, and I set him down on the floor and move to let him out.

He walks over to the crate and stands there, boking at me. I open the door and tell him to GTFO, it’s warm enough, and he knows damn good and well he loves his roost in the window planter. He buk-buk-buks at me and hops back and forth a little.

I tell him to hush and get out the door.

He crows at me. ER-ER-ER-ERRRRRRRRRR! And then gobbles while hopping from foot to foot, looking back and forth from me to the crate.

I tell him fiine!, get his feeder set up, the water, and a bowl full of bugs because why not.

I point at the now prepared crate that’s maybe a foot off the floor, well lower than my lap, for damn sure. He hops back and forth burk-burking at me. Now, if you don’t speak chicken, the difference between a bok-bok, a buk-buk a tuk-tuk and a burk-burk may not be evident. I, however, have been learning chicken the last two years

Burk-burk-burk is, loosely translated: “monkey, ah say monkey, ah insist you obey me, suh” yes, he sounds like Foghorn Leghorn, he’s a propah suthren burd. In my head anyway.

So, I go over and poke him in the butt and point to the ramp that leads into the house. My back ain’t bending over to pick up his butterball butt. He bawk-AWKs at my rudeness, “well, I nevah, suh, I nevah!”, but he moves up to where I can reach him. I scoop him up and tickle his wing pits, which elicits a quite offended bawk-AWK-gobble-gobble. Which, as you can imagine is “how dare you tickle me under mah wings, suh!”

I carry him back to his crate, and sit him down. He proceeds to tuk-tuk-tuk as he pecks, then picks up and puts down assorted dried insects. Happy as a pig in slops. Which is pretty damn happy, if you’ve never seen it. But I might wager that “happy as a rooster pecking bugs” might actually be happier.

He eats some bugs, then moves over to the small roost inside the crate, fluffs his butt up, and settles in while peacefully buking at me while I talk him to sleep.

You can tell he’s asleep when he makes a few burbles, sighs, and then goes quiet.

So, in short, I spent half an hour convincing a damn chicken to go to bed, gave him a snack, and read him a bedtime story.

Nah, he’s not spoiled at all.

  • Well, here in the U.S., the gap between what an RN does and what a PA does is pretty big. But we also have nurse practitioners that are roughly equivalent to a PA in terms of scope, with an NP having a master’s degree. We also have bachelor’s programs for nursing that’s essentially an administrative add-on to RN training, with some other advanced nursing training as well.

Pay scales between an NP and PA are similar, usually +/- 5 or so thousand USD per year. Depends a lot on where you are, and what kind of place you’re working in

Both are also generally going to be the ones giving orders regarding patient care, rather than the ones doing patient care, as in drawing blood, and that sort of thing. But both are able to do similar types of procedures, if not exactly the same

To the best of my understanding, a nurse in Germany is roughly equivalent to an RN here, in that the day to day work is going to be very similar.

So, you would, as a PA (and that is even more similar to the U.S. than an RN), be doing the kind of work you prefer. I have both a PA and an NP at the office I go to for medical care. They both order and interpret tests, provide education, do examinations, prescribe medications.

But as far as the kind of patient you’d deal with, nobody can completely avoid aging patients, and trying to only see non overweight patients is both iffy and weird. Patients with dementia, that’s going to depend on where you’re working. If you work in pediatrics, you can avoid most of the dementia cases though, and all of the geriatric ones. But you won’t have to work beside unless you’re in a facility.

Drama? No such thing as a medical staff that doesn’t gossip and have drama. Yeah, there’s less of it with doctors, but that’s because the doctors don’t work side by side as much.

So, overall, if Germany is similar in terms of how in-office culture works, you’re only naive if you think you can escape drama lol

  • This is both PTB and YDI

While your comment didn’t deserve to be removed on its own merit, you were in what amounts to a slap fight. The mods were definitely over the line, yes. But, if they’d nuked the thread instead of playing favorites, it would be all YDI.

It’s never a good thing to stir shit, without being prepared to accept the inevitable intervention of a mod or admin. When someone goes into a political or religious space, and joins in a slap fight full personal attacks and off topic nonsense, their comments are going to be removed. You don’t seem to have started the slap fight, but you jumped in.

  • Well, I don’t think that can be called stable, no.

But that doesn’t mean you’re at a point where you need to withdraw from anything big yet. That is certainly an option, but not immediately necessary.

You’re taking time off, so take that time. Once you’re a day or two from returning, evaluate yourself again.

The main job I used to do was stressful and prone to people burning out at a high rate, so I know exactly where you’re coming from. Little breaks line you’re taking can be enough to reset your state of being.

One piece of advice if you decide to stay, and if you don’t already do so, make sure you have a dedicated work space. A lot of folks that work from home do it anywhere in their home, and that allows anywhere in your home to become linked to the stress of work.

We all need time off and time away from our jobs. When those jobs are stressful the need to actively plan time off as a regular part of our routine becomes vital. We have to know that there’s a relief time coming, or it’s much easier to fall into that dread of going to work.

With our primary language not being the same, allow me to expand a little, since it might not be obvious. Time off of work just means, in this case, not being on duty, not doing the work itself. Time away is about not carrying the job with us. It’s time to not think about work, not do work related things. That first part, not thinking about work, is harder because we only have so much control over what our brains think about.

If you can’t stop thinking about work, it’s probably time to contact your therapist, or find one. No matter what you decide about your job, when you lose the ability to enjoy life and think of other things without work thoughts intruding, that’s a start to a spiral, where things just keep getting worse without intervention.

  • Checking people over.

Used to be a nurse’s assistant, among other jobs. So I have the unnerving habit of eyeballing everyone I know and asking them questions when they show even a hint of difficulty.

I see something on their arm, I’m likely to be reaching for them before I stop to think to ask permission. Luckily, I don’t do it with strangers because I hate touching or being touched when I don’t know the person, but it gets plenty of eye rolls from the people I do know lol.

    Skin check!

Oh, I see you holding your belly, when did you last move your bowels?

Then again, some of them are fine with it.

My buddy, Spider, the last time he had a big party, he showed up the next day, said he went a little crazy, stood up and whipped out his dick. It was abraded, but otherwise intact and with no signs of infection. And yes, before I could stop myself, I was leaning forward and looking closely.

Because it was Spider, he wiggled it at me and said, in a squeaky little voice “hello Mr sasquatch, do you want a kees?”

I love that guy, but I slapped his balls for that one

  • It isn’t like religion is incompatible with logic and science.

There are some religions that require rejecting science, and some that require blind faith, but it isn’t all throbs religions, and it isn’t inherent to religion itself.

The only time it takes any mental gymnastics is when the religion does reject science as a methodology (as opposed to rejecting blind faith in science) and/or require that each follower must agree to reject it as well.

Something like neopaganism isn’t as prone to excluding science as methodology, and berry very often supports science as a body of knowledge, but focuses on the parts of life that science doesn’t cover. It happens still, and some of the zealots from those religions can be just as crazy as zealots from something like christianity. But, on average, your typical Wiccans aren’t going to be science haters, they’re just more interested in other things.

Now, you will get a lot of those sorts choosing to reject science based information on specific things, but that’s no more or less than when your average agnostic or atheist buys into pseudoscience. That means it isn’t really a religion thing, it’s a human thing.

You’ll find plenty of monotheists in science even, and they’re not conflicted because science, logic is about the concrete, the physical world. They can freely choose to lol are their holy texts as humanly made, but divinely inspired, and thus a product of its time. So there’s no conflict. The scientific method simply explores the world as it is, seeking a better understanding of what their god created, without worrying about the why.

There doesn’t even have to be a conflict in the Abrahamic sects between evolution and creation. If the specific sect and follower assumes that god is all powerful and all knowing, them evolution is simply the will of god as it expresses itself over time. Or, that god created a universe that is meant to grow and change independently, and thus evolution was part of that creation from the beginning.

As much as religious thought can be a limitation to thinking, it doesn’t have to be. They just have to accept that the religious stuff is about the soul, and that souls aren’t relevant to logic or science. When that way of thinking is in place, it’s possible to logically know that no religion can be proven any more than the existence of the divine can be disproven, so it simply isn’t relevant to science at all.

Fwiw, I’m not religious. The closest I get is an appreciation of Buddhist principles, and taoist outlook on viewing reality. They’re “fun”, they give a platform to work from in dealing with the unpleasant aspects of existence, so they have value. But that’s not the same as being religious, or even “spiritual”. Plus, when the topic of religion comes up, I can throw those out there as shorthand for “I’m not interested in your religion becoming my religion, thank you.”

  • Believe it or not, there sre some folks that do. Some women enjoy it, and some gay or bi men enjoy it.

Waaaaay back in the day, back when you could get a chip and a satellite dish and get the spice channel for free, a lot of closeted gay and bi dudes only had access to straight porn. So, they often did have a bit of a wank to those moments.

But nowadays, what with the internet making it easy to find any porn type you like, you’d think that the producers would kinda minimize it when it isn’t absolutely necessary for the shot.
