  • I think maybe the problem is that places like Reddit were essentially a “third place.” It just happens to be a virtual one. You can’t monetize a place, unless you also provide a good or a service. a restaurant at least provides food and drinks. bowling alleys provide games and food and drink. What does reddit provide aside from the place? Other than annoyances such as Ads, 1984 level moderation, etc.









  • I’m not entirely certain to be honest. It was 25 years ago now. Whatever it was, I never went back lol

    Edit: looking back since it made me curious, likely something to do with them going public back then.

    Edit 2: I’m certain that’s what it was, because I remembered Fark was just Drew. That was very appealing during the dot com implosion. So, I moved from the new evil corp to the open source equivalent lol
