  • I used to think a future with cyborgs would be pretty cool but personally, I’m not so hot on the idea anymore. The problem is that you would be beholden to whichever corporation or government manufactures and pays for parts. And who is to say that the support for whichever product that you’ve surgically implanted will be for life, and that you won’t end up with useless landfill electronics sewed up inside of you.

Personally I think that if AI was ever made with altruistic purposes, that could fill the role of things like complex calculations and extra memory or a log. And good Augmented Reality could fill the role of interacting directly with entertainment and blocking out the outside world. And maybe one day there would be effective ways of interacting directly with computers through electrodes or even wirelessly. Although who knows how our privacy would be invaded then. There could be literal thought police in that case.

The problem is that the tech will always come from someone else. Imagine integrating this kind of tech into your life on such a deep level and then the person in charge of over seeing and maintaining this tech turns out to be an authoritarian nazi.

  • [Removed by Reddit]

Been a minute since I’ve seen that. And that’s actually one huge advantage of the Fediverse. There can’t be a [Removed by Lemmy] because ‘Lemmy’ is a federation of servers with their own rules and regulations and aren’t even all based in the USA. And if any server starts these shenanigans, you can just move to another.

Although I do wish that profiles and comment history could be preserved from one server to another. That’s basically the last piece of the puzzle that would give the user a completely a completely free experience.

  • so many users continue to shill for such decisions

I think that something that a lot of people need to be reminded of here, especially ex Reddit moderators, is that the users have NEVER particularly been fans of the moderators. In fact the moderators on Reddit helped the admins bring Reddit to the point where it is now in the first place. Setting up automoderator to catch buzzwords out of context and make people’s comments disappear without notice or a trace is just as fucking dodgy as the admins flagging the word “Luigi”.

So no, it’s not a surprise that moderators getting into trouble for not falling in line with the admins doesn’t cause a mass exodus. Because most people don’t give a fuck about the moderators and would be glad to see them gone. With the way they have been abusing automoderator over the years, it wouldn’t make much of a difference if they were replaced by an automated system anyway.

So if you want people to come to Lemmy, stop acting like they give a shit about the moderator that treats them like dirt. Because that’ll probably have the opposite effect. I know that it did on me when all the mods were crying about the API and their modding tools. Start offering more reasons for why USERS should come here.

  • Do people think that the more specific labels and variations are the reason for the hate? Because as someone who only actually started looking up terminology and familiarising myself with the people late in life, and has walked amongst closed minded conservative people, they don’t know or care about anything outside of ‘gay’ or ‘trans’. Even non-binary is an alien concept to most.

It doesn’t matter what the label is or what the colours are, people who hate anything out of the norm are going to hate anything out of the norm regardless. Especially when they’ve been raised in a religion that teaches them from childhood that anyone out of the norm is going to burn and suffer for eternity. They don’t do research so that they know what they’re talking about and they don’t bother to ever actually get to know any of the people they claim to hate. They just like to hate.

If they weren’t going after trans people right now, they would be going after gay people. And you can bet that’s next anyway. Have people already forgotten how gay people were treated before trans people were the target?

  • The way I see it, is that the rules and aim of the instance are all written out pretty fucking clearly and people on a platform dominated by longform text don’t really have an excuse for not being able to comprehend it. Like seriously, I had been using Lemmy for two days when I checked out Blåhaj, and I feel like I understood then already because it’s not hard and English is my native language.

So that said, when I see people complaining about it, I think they’re either fucking stupid, or they’re probably these ‘free speech’ people that want the right to go around insulting everyone without consequences (while doing the most epic pearl clutching the moment anyone insults them).

As far as I’m concerned, moderators and admins doing exactly what is clearly fucking written in the description and rules is not power abuse.

  • And now they’re apparently starting to set up shop on Lemmy too. Before I blocked it, I saw they’re on their best behaviour too. But mark my words, once the dating and flirting period is over, their shoes are going to come off and their feet are going to be up on the table.

I would’ve hoped that by now everyone would’ve learnt their lesson to never trust or listen to these people again. They flat out lie when they’re talking about things like ‘freedom’ and once they’re in power, they serve themselves and fuck over everyone else in society. And their leaders, that they don’t mind associating with and supporting are a bunch of inbred kiddie fiddlers and have been since long before Trump. And yet here we are again, letting them have a seat at the table.

These people cannot be fucking trusted. And I’m willing to bet that they’re going to be a source of a lot of downvote trolling too, in queer communities and women-centric communities.

  • I’ve been playing around with Facebook for the last couple of weeks and the censorship is so crazy these days is isn’t funny. But only if you post anti Trump and Elon content, even as a non American. I’ve already had a couple of posts flagged for ‘misinformation’ since after Zuckerberg made this announcement and I’ve seen it happening to other actual Americans too. These ‘free speech’ people are all fucking jokes and liars and the biggest pearl clutchers whenever someone exercises their free speech to speak against them.

  • The guy clearly got hit in the head while he was in Nipton because if you leave him alone, he leaves the road and just runs out into the wasteland, getting himself killed by radscorpions.

It’s been a minute since I last played, so maybe there is something like that by now but I’ve felt for a long time that this game needs an NPC overhaul along the lines of Immersive NPCs for Skyrim. Just for better schedules and shit.

I’m thinking of that lady that you save from geckos right at the start, who just spends the rest of the game standing around in Trudy’s house. Or Malcolm, who appears out of nowhere, then vanishes into thin air after getting to the Mojave Outpost. Same with those star bottle cap people near Nipton. Not sure how much this old engine allows though.
