  • I mean if you don’t want others to get to it.

Or if say you want to participate on 2 seperate servers that don’t federate eachother.

But in general a small hobby lemmy instance, can join all the communities on the large general purpose one. Hence, you are talking from a server I’m not familiar with, and we’re talking in a discussion on the largest most general purpose instance.

Only reason I can think of is if you are really worried of people confusing you for say a Deranged_Kermit@lemmy.world, or something.

  • The only “grain of truth” I would say to the “woke movies” claims etc… Is that sometimes, studios will use minority casting, as a substitute for coming up with a good story or doing anything actually original in the plot. IE a shit movie with a diverse cast is still a shit movie.

I would suppose it also ties down to the fact that, actually trying to represent more people as a push, also started around the time that, movie costs scaled up so much that investors aren’t willing to go in on a movie that isn’t a sequel or remake of something that everyone has already seen. Movies now are more diverse, and 90% of them are crap, but the correlation isn’t causation, and that’s demonstrable by the fact that movies that have all straight white characters, are as bland and unoriginal as the ones that the right blames DEI for why they suck.

But yes… in short DEI, affirmative action, and whatever they called it before has always been the scapegoat for why everything gets worse.

I’m losing track of all the tiplines… but IMO I think the ideal should be universally reporting republican representatives. Usually there’s enough connection to make it even not super off the wall.

DEI, lets report every minority/female republican congressperson (especially the more they claim to be against DEI). Or even better flip the script on DEI.

IE Dan Cane was selected purely for his race, over clearly more qualified C.Q Brown.

Transgender, why not basely accuse anyone of being trans. (again more anti-trans people the better)

Communist sympathizers. “rich guys are re-distributing wealth from the poor to themselves”.

Illegal immigrants: Well there’s that south african guy who’s actually literally managing what I used to consider an impossible stereotype of Taking our jobs, and being too lazy to work, and mooching off government programs

  • No no… all wrong.

That suggestion seems to imply that they want to ban slavery, but want to hate anything with the word trans in it.

if they dislike anything with the word trans in it. So hating the slave trade, and hating trans people would go together not be oppositions.

Now if they like slave trade, but dislike trans, that creates the conflict.

  • Common sense… it’s doge or trump… We’ve never seen mass attacks like this, all of a sudden a guy comes around bragging that he’s going to cut the federal jobs like crazy, carries a chainsaw around boasting about cuts, calls every government service ponzi schemes and useless.

How dumb does anyone have to be to buy it if he says “oh that wasn’t me”. He can’t even make a fall guy. You can’t blame the democrats on this one… they don’t have an ounce of power.

  • Bottom line is it’s the handicap of trying to keep the system fair.

It’s like the battle between Hero’s and Villains… of which the hero keeps throwing the villain back in the same prison system/jails that they have escaped or manipulated their way out of 20 times before. Meanwhile every time they get close the villain gives his best effort to permenantly kill the hero.

Also sadly there’s the part that seems to go the opposite direction in fictional hero/villain stories. We assume hero’s are really good at uniting and working together. Villains are constantly going to be backstabbing eachother. Reality is, we can’t agree on good, but damn did they come together and unify amazingly under a plan of horrors.

  • It’s kind of the real annoying problem when it comes to wanting to buy clothes that aren’t feeding sweatshops…

IE, you find clothes that are cheap, you immidiately know “well no way things are this cheap without labor abuses”. But then at the same time you also are aware “just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean they don’t also use the same labor abuses, just pocket bigger profit”.

  • Trump continues to give us temporary repreives… from the horrible ideas he wants to enact.

I have to wonder if the whole thing is a stock market go up and down kind of plan…

(IE tell rich investors to sell) Announce a policy that till tank the market (tell investors to buy when prices hit bottom), announce temporary reprieve (prices go back up, then tell them to sell before the date comes by again… watch stock dip again as uncertainty of whether another reprieve will come again, anounce reprieve at the last second…).

Basically this kind of plan massively awards the constant in and out style of trading, and punishes the “hold on for the long haul” investors.

  • Maybe that’s why I enjoyed it, but wasn’t blown away by it.

I think you and I are probably similar in that. I’d say I really enjoyed about 20 hours of it, then played an additional 30 hours where I was hoping things would start getting fun again, but it never came.

Ignoring the video Slots scoring, and poker themes. I would still say luck is so much stronger in balatro then on any roguelike I’ve played. To the extent that the best “strategy”, is basically to start going all in on a certain playstyle, that requires 3+ things to be viable, and then die or reset if the necessary components don’t show up before the ante outpaces you.

In short, psudo-gambling mechanics are IMO largely what hooks people in the game, which I also have to say the PEGI group may actually be if anything slightly underestimating the risk. IE the game is 100% not gambling, but it draws on everything in the brain that gambling does. “Maybe next game will give me cooler jokers that will get me further”. I mean yes all games have some extent of these, there’s a reason why there’s such a large overlap. As well as why basically all mobile app developers, and a good portion of big corporate monstrocities turned their games to build on gambling mechanics.

Balatro IMO leans into all of the hook on gambling tropes, just avoiding the last step of exploiting it to get users to continue to pay them money. It’s actually a pretty reasonable question to ask… does it put kids/teenagers into a mindset that will make them more vulnerable to a less ethical game developer that takes that last step.

  • IMO the gambling themes are the selling point of balatro. Hell ignoring the poker half, the dev’s themselves basically said the whole scoring theme etc… was made to be slot machine style gameplay.

To be honest I think that’s a very large percentage of it’s popularity, is just that viewpoint making it accessible to, non gamers and non roguelike fans. I don’t think it would be a top seller if done as a “slay the spire”, or done with a theme that doesn’t have appeal to non-gamers.

Also I would say, balatro is like 2 or 3 very minor changes away from easily being a “suck crazy amount of money from gambling addicts” game. IE if someone took balatro, released it on mobile platforms as f2p. Only differences being to slightly increase the speed of the anti score. and say start each game with 2 optional joker packs (for $1 chose between one of 3 random negative jokers), for $2 chose one of 5 negative jokers). (obviously replacing the dollar amounts with purchasable in game currency). You’d easily get into top mobile apps and make a killing.
