11·10 hours agoNo, it isn’t. But Nestlé is the perfect example of a global company which shows why “BuyfromEU” might be problematic. It is based in Europe. But it also sells globally, has offices everywhere and it is owned by people in different countries. So is Nestlé a european company with this shareholder structure?
Yes and no. First of all, there is nobody who wants to take over. So the option is “abandon it” vs. “kill it”. Reddits actions in regard of their mods do have consequences. And it also doesn’t belong to the community as Reddit is actively claiming ownership. So to take your church analogy: The pastor wants to quit. The bishop claims ownership and control of everything, is actively harming the community, but can’t provide a replacement priest.
And in my opinion it is better to stop projects like this instead of abandoning them as abandoned places & subreddits will get taken over by spammers, crazy people and full on nazis.
2·13 hours agoMost countries have rules in place about how many hours a driver is allowed to drive without a break. It’s “after 4,5h, make a 45 min pause” here in Germany, which at 80km/h or 100km/h max for buses gives you a range of 360km - 450km, which is totally fine with current technology. The biggest problem here is that companies are totally ignoring the rules here

14·14 hours agoTBH, it does make sense: Posting a legitimate comment and then editing it after a while is a popular tactic of spammers. Post something, get the top spot and after the post has gone out of the popular queues, edit in your personal spam links and profit from all the sweet traffic coming via Google -> Reddit -> Your site
Yes, you are doing something different here, but for an automated moderating system that looks exactly like a spam attack. Overwrite existing comments with the same post & edit in an external link.
And sadly you need those automated tools as a Reddit mod and if Lemmy is keeping it’s growth, we will need them here, too. Spammers will come and they totally will overwhelm moderators trying to do it manually.
Where are you based? There should be a local alternative available in your local supermarket. Just try them out and maybe search who is producing them where. Please don’t start to import cola from other countries as everything has to be trucked around and nothing good will come from someone in Spain drinking Cola produced in Norway.
(This is actually something Coca Cola is doing good: They are shipping only the sirup and use local companies to bottle it in order to reduce transportation costs)

3·2 days agoI run a small thinclient (HP Mini G400, but those small Lenovos thinkcentres and others also work) in my home. Cost me ~100€ plus a few Euro for a RAM update and a bigger hard drive and now I’m running Proxmox with the help of the Community Scripts:

Euronews is even worse: It was bought by some shell company belonging to the Victor Orban circle.
It really doesn’t make any sense: A patriotic, nationalist party would want to strenghten their country. The AfD should want to make Germany independent from those pesky russians or those muslim oil dealers. Produce german energy in germany, strenghten the german economy, don’t pay german billions to foreigners. Stop climate change to protect our beautiful german landscape!
But they are doing the opposite: They are rallying against wind & solar, are pushing for russian gas, want gas-guzzeling cars and so on. Which is totally a hint that they were bought by someone whose name starts with P
You might want to read a little bit about Axel Springer - they’ve bought Politico a while ago and I’m not reading it, because it is owned by them. Might be that they haven’t been gutted totally, but I know what they are putting out here in Germany and how they are meddeling in german politics. The recent elections really saw hardcore anti-migrant headlines from them.
Axel Springer is totally a right wing press. And Matthias Döpfner, its CEO, totally went on record to celebrate the speech of Vance in Munich. Their german flagship journal, BILD, is reguarlly spreading propaganda and is pushing campaigns against migration and “the greens”. They are scum and shouldn’t be read.
I mean… why wouldn’t all that is happening not have a effect on sales? Musk is the face of Tesla and Musks image has totally gone downhill for lots of people. He’s gone from “techbro genius” to “fascist” in a few months (!) in the public image and there is really not reason to doubt, that this won’t have an effect on sales.
I mean, evolution kind of might work around the ozone layer being gone. People just need to have children before the skin cancer kills them and that’s totally possible. Might be good if the parents don’t die when the kids are too little.
Evolution really doesn’t care about your personal well-being and won’t help you. It might “evolve” the human race to get children earlier in their teens, because everybody over 30 is dead from skin cancer and microplastics, but maybe the better solution is to use something different in hair spray and fridges.

It makes sense that there still are physical games. There are many people with no internet or slow internet. You can gift them to your children or friends on their birthday. You can sell them/pass them on after you’ve finished the game
I have Audio-CDs from the 80s that are still playing 40 years later. And I have CDs with deep scratches that also play without problems.
