I wear size 15s, and I can tell you it’s a nightmare. Slightly less so since the Internet made shopping easier.

Stores don’t often stock anything above a 13. Like I’ve been in so many stores looking for a single pair of shoes, any pair, and found nothing. If you go online and filter by size, you’re looking at a 90% reduction in selection as compared to a normal size, say a 10.

And then, when you do order some shoes, it’s 50-50 one company’s size 15 will have the same dimensions as the last or next company. I know this may not be a unique problem to big shoes, but it makes it that much more difficult.

When I was younger and had a much less stable life, that is to say not having a lifestyle that was compatible with online shopping, I’d often go weeks shoving cardboard in my shoes in a feeble attempt to patch the holes in my soles. I still subconsciously avoid puddles and wet spots most people would think nothing of plowing straight through.

I have tried it. Learned a good chunk of a second language in fact. Nice of you to assume and imply I’m a xenophobic ignoramus tho. Appreciate that.

And if you’ll go back to my original comment I never actually advocated for a complete stop to travel, only that we slow down and exercise some moderation.

Not to mention we have internet and readily available books on just about any topic you care to name. Much different situation than even 50ys ago as far expanding your own horizons goes. I know it’s not the same as being there but still.

And I’m no more willing to burn the planet for your cultural horizons than the next guys fruity cocktail.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but maybe we should all cool it on the tourism. It’s terrible for the environment, mostly terrible for whomever was calling that place home. I know so many people that spout off about the environment and then think nothing of hopping on multiple flights per year.

If I were king everyone would get travel passes twice. Once in their 20s and again in their 60s.

No, much later. Transmissions in trucks work differently and have to withstand so much more stress. Wasn’t till the early 00’s that anyone got serious about them.

They’ve been around since the 50’s, but only became widespread in 2010ish. I think Volvo started offering the first production model auto trucks in 06.

I drove one of the first semi trucks with an automatic transmission, and that thing was dangerous. It would pop me out of gear going down hill, thank fuck the brakes held out. The reverse gear could either roll the rig back at 10 inches per hour, or 10mph, and not much in-between.
