Ecosia works well enough for me too. The tree planting thing should never be forgotten. The scope of their work is impressive and they’re very transparent about their goals and funding. No other search engine comes close to that.

The problems with ARM is their involvement with Israel.
Yeah, the slow and partial dawning here is pretty sad to see.
This is a really good idea. The place to help people sign up is not on Lemmy, but where the users are.
Hopefully in the future the sign up process (and the orientation experience that follows) will improve drastically on Lemmy. But I don’t see it happening soon.
Germany has no issue with supporting Nazism As long as they’re not the main face of it. They’re currently funding a genocide in Palestine.
For anyone who has ever been on a committee, this will come as absolutely no surprise.
We can go further
Social net.
Two words everyone understands. Also the two ideas that make the fediverse what it is.
kbinners probably don’t have a working instance to see our convo
Things can be good from the consumption side. But the developers are often working long extra hours to make that happen. If we want to escape capitalism ever, we need to think of the human element.
I would love to see a non-proprietary desktop music player. Just something simple that I can listen to my MP3s with. Audacity is great, but it’s a PITA when it comes to casual listening.
/s. As sbv Said in another comment, I think it’s best to join an existing project. Loops has potential to rival TikTok but it’s still not in a state I would use.
Edit: I could have placed the /s a bit better to flag my surreal sense of humour. I was joking about FOSS lacking a desktop music player, because there seem to be hundreds of them. I use Audacity for editing, not listening to mp3s :)
Because it isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough and my favourite now. And they are the only consumer tech company I know of having such a positive impact on the environment worldwide.
I was confused there and thought you were saying that they were bought by the Shell corporation. But after doing some searching and reading, I see what you mean: a shell corporation.
There’s definitely concern around Victor Orban’s influence. And your own news Euronews have had Clickbait headlines for quite awhile already. I prefer DW now myself.
Interesting, thanks for posting about this. For a plugin that’s in it’s infancy (only a couple of days old), it’s already worth trying.
At the moment it requires you to choose your country and then offers alternatives based in your country. So for example when I visit Amazon, it recommends a national bookshop here in Ireland. That’s a great recommendation if I’m looking for books, but I wasn’t.
Hopefully it will become more context sensitive in time and make recommendations based on what item I’m looking at. If I’m looking at a load carrier / trolley, I’d like to get a recommendation for Athlon in Germany, for example. I’ll contact the developers about that.
But the main reason I’d use something like this is to simply stop lining the pockets of billionaires, so I’d like to find the smallest supplier/retailer possible. Maybe I need a different extension.
Edit: They can be contacted on codeberg repo here: https://codeberg.org/K-Robin/GoEuropean
But doesn’t Leta use Bing as it’s backend also?
It seems like a good alternative so some of the most popular engines. I think I’ll stick with Ecosia, since on top of being EU based, they also make the world a better place.
I just want to echo my apologies and sympathies to the trans community. I’ll never understand why you’ve been chosen as the target for the hate factories that are radicalising people. I also don’t understand how people can allow themselves to see something entirely natural as something unnatural. But, I think of your dilemma regularly and would like to be more of an ally.
Like yourself, SMS and phone calls. My bank app also handles authentication of online purchases a bit better with notifications enabled. Everything else is disabled.
On desktop I have notifications for email as well as those mentioned above.
