The IT sector is disproportionately Indian, and Musk is a strong supporter of outsourcing H1B visa employees.

H1B visa employees is a fancy way of saying slaves since they can be deported if they quit and don’t get a new job.

That is extremely condescending toward H1B holders. And I’m not a proponent of the program.

Id challenge you to say that statement to an HB colleague and see how they take it.

If I could either work for 30k at home or do a 140k job abroad for 80k I would willingly get ripped off and exploited. It doesn’t make it less bullshit that we don’t offer such talented folks citizenship and a fair wage.

Imagine calling 9-1-1 and getting sent to an Indian call center to handle your call. This is a boring dystopia.

i wonder if its also true for biotech, i see a large number of listings asking for the same visas. i know indians also go into medical, and biotech too. but thier main source would be tech.

I think you have a negative bias.

There are literally two names if you really squint that could be Indian. And how do you know they’re Indian. Maybe they’re American?

2/30 for an ethnic group that comprises 1% of the US population seemed a bit odd. Noticing a minor peculiarity and believing it to be negative are entirely different. What offered you the impression that I would view their ethnicity in a negative light?

HB-1 visas. Work for Musk, and they may get to stay.

Also India is a big country. There’s a lot of competition. During 2022 when we were hiring by the butt load, I interviewed a bunch of devs who were fired from other tech companies. Most of the applicants were indians and many even outright told me that they used to work 70-100 hours in their last job and wouldn’t have a problem doing that if they were hired.
